Past pleasures

I just downloaded and played StarCraft II after years of not playing. It was fun to immerse myself in old hobbies for a change. We grow, we change, we find joy in new things. But revisiting past pleasures is a great change of pace.

More people should have them. They truly are a wonderful gift.

An Alternative Approach To New Years Resolutions

With just a few weeks left of 2020, it’s likely you’re beginning to think about your goals and resolutions for the New Year.

While 2020 was challenging for many, we all still have things we want to accomplish or change.

Maybe you want to quit smoking. Maybe you want to eat healthier. Maybe you want to focus on your mental health.

While making New Years resolutions is common, sometimes an alternative approach can be exactly what you need to reach your goals.

One thing to consider as you plan for the New Year is to pick a “theme” for 2021.

Instead of making a list of 3-5 things you want to change or do, consider thinking deeply about a theme that would help you get where you want to go.

If you want to stop snacking and smoking for example, your theme could be removing bad habits from your life.

If you want to lose weight, your theme could be focusing on your health.

Having a clear big picture goal can help you stay motivated and focused when the inevitable setback occurs.

Instead of your New Years resolutions being scattered, you can choose a few goals that fall under your theme.

If you want to find a fulfilling job for example, you could choose “career” as your theme for 2021. You can still make other changes in your life of course, but you’d be surprised at how much you can accomplish with a 12 month focus.

One of the biggest challenges of reaching your goals, isn’t the actual doing, but rather not having the right plan.

As you think about 2021, consider choosing a theme for the year and going all in.

Good health is a blessing

It’s far too easy to take your health for granted, but at the end of the day, good health is all that matters.

I have a migraine now, and would do anything to revert back to the norm. Your health, body, and mind are a gift. Treat it as such.

What are you known for?

Are you known for being funny? Serious? Lazy?

Are you known to be a good person? Short-tempered?

Are you known for being a hard worker?

If the answer upsets you, there’s always time to make a change.
