Good vs great writing

What is great writing? It's a question I've given considerable thought to.

For me, great writing doesn’t just transfer information and communicate ideas. It provokes emotion. It moves. Great writing inspires. It excites, sometimes it even scares. It can be short, it can be long, and on occasion break the rules of the written word.

Great writing meets the reader where they are at, and provides a new perspective to consider. It's the sentence that forces you to change. It's the story that makes you feel heard. What is great writing? Writing in which the effects last years after the words have been consumed.
