make a difference in a good way that benefits everybody, because a difference can be positive or negative.

That is my my re-phrasal of Apple Inc.'s former slogan "Think Different", because it is vague. Vague because it does not refer to negative effects but positive effects only. Here is the extension to the slogan (by Apple Inc.):

"Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They are not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things."

When we think of making a difference it is understood we focus on the benefits, but we must not forget difference is neutral word, that means it can be positive or negative. So we usually mean let's make a difference to make things better today.

The beef of my comment is that the phrase 'Make a difference' sounds incomplete. Make a difference in what? To make things better or worse? So to make it complete: Make a difference by making things better today. No wonder why many people, I think, seem un-enthusiastic about it!

Bud, to introduce myself since this is my first post to your site, I am Aegil de Vera Santos, a Filipino. I'm born in the same month as you and the same year, but I am 8 days older than you. But I know older does not always mean you are wiser. I respect the fact that growing wiser is an active task but growing older is obviously passive. It is good that you made yourself wise by reading a lot of books that increased your wisdom and exposed yourself to other things that improved your wisdom. I stumbled upon this site through Natural Bias on May 29, 2009.

Does my comment make any sense? Let me know.

Thank you for helping me see the positive side to myself, keep it up!

Listening is really important and something that we all think we do well. In reality, most of us are really poor at it. I ran a workshop last week in a large corporation where people got to listen to each other at a deep level, really hearing what was not being said as much as the words, really understanding the emotions and feelings. People were blown away by how empowering it was to be listened to at such a deep level and went away promising to listen to their teams more. Imagine if we listened for the sake of the person speaking instead of to gain something ourselves. What an impact that would have.
Great post.

Whenever you see someone in need, try to see the person first, the need later, and the excuse not to act, never
